Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. So it’s a no brainer that one of my favourite weekend activities is to go brunch. Good food, friends and sunlight (for photos, of course)? I’m in. I love trying new places in town and when I heard of Restaurant Cirkus opening last November, it went on top of my bucket list. This restaurant is the new project of Chef Julien Joré and Stéphanie Labelle, the owner of one of my favourite pastry shops in Montréal (Pâtisserie Rhubarbe). I finally got the chance to go there last weekend.
I ordered the red chili pepper hot chocolate (for La Grande Tournée du Chocolat Chaud of La Tablée des Chefs) and the eggs benedict with smoked salmon, kale and onion bread. It was one of the best I had in a long time. The problem with these eggs is that it always gets mushy due to the hollandaise sauce, which I dislike a lot, but turns out it wasn’t the case at Cirkus. The onion bread was a little bit sweet and well balanced in the dish. It may seem small for one’s belly, but I think it was actually the perfect size (it comes with crunchy bread on the side, too). I also got to taste the scrambled eggs, which were so creamy and tasty with the chives, and the poached eggs with thin slices of squash, mushroom and ham. All pretty delicious, creative, decadent and photogenic slash Instagrammable. I also loved the lovely details they put into the décor, such as the beautiful shadows installations made of cut paper and light from Atelier Make. All in all, yes, you should head to Cirkus too to indulge and start off your weekend the good way.
