Raw Key Lime Coconut Tarts

2015/07/23

Summer, I love you! Since the end of school, I’ve more time to shoot personal projects and focus on business development, read books and enjoy afternoons with friends without worrying of handing in assignments every week…

Two weeks ago we had a power blackout and I was freaking out: we had no Internet connection for the whole day. My roommate and I managed to do other activities, such as watching a movie (on half a Mac battery, phew!) and we took a long walk in our neighbourhood in the evening. I realized that having no electricity has its perks: I read a novel, I edited photos without checking social media every 20 minutes and enjoyed the summer weather. I should shut down my computer more often.

Aza Pop-Up Home

I’m sharing some photographs I took at the Aza Pop-Up Home two weeks ago. I learned about the pop-up on Instagram and couldn’t miss it. Located in the Old Montreal, it was a real dream for me: stylist/creative director and former model Azamit curated all the rooms with local designer products; be it furniture, art, props or clothing. A true gem! The visit was really inspiring.

The pictures speak for themselves.

Restaurant Doca

Last Monday, I was invited to the official opening of Mediterranean Restaurant Doca, located in Griffintown (one block away from West Elm, tee hee). So you know me, I’m down for any invitation that includes food, especially when seafood is involved. The restaurant’s name originally comes from the Portuguese word for « docks » and is relevant to the history of this Montreal neighbourhood.

Peonies Study

2015/07/01

Peonies-9

‘Tis the time of the blooming season I’m looking forward to the most (equally with cherry blossoms), peonies. They are so stunning and get fluffy in no time. They currently sit on my desktop and brighten up my day. Oh, and don’t get me started with their smell. Sigh.

Larose Paris Part 2 & A Summer To-Do List

2015/06/22

Larose - SLi - deux-1

For the second part of my shooting with Larose Paris hats, I asked my roommate – Marianne – to be the model. Fortunately she said yes!  It was fun doing a portrait photo shoot outdoors (since I’m so drawn towards still life) and I definitely want to do more of these in the future.
Thanks M, you’re a babe. x
p.s. yes, I’m totally aware of the dress (2nd and 4th photos) and it’s bothering me.

To embrace the warmest season that’s upon us since yesterday, I made a summer to-do list to keep me motivated. What’s yours?

1. Find a film camera
2. Go to Dinette Triple Crown and have a picnic in the park
3. Go outdoors and explore unknown neighbourhoods by bike
4. Plan a pizza + movie night with my roommates
5. Spend a day without Internet and read books all day (that’s a real challenge)
6. Give a shot to yoga
7. Clean my metabolism and to not eat refined sugar for a week (ugh)
8. Go to the Jardin botanique by bike to snap some beauties with my camera
9. Plan a pedicure in a beauty spa to pamper my neglected feet
10. Clean my wardrobe and do a huge yard sale in my neighbourhood

Oh, am I the only one who can not stop listening to Seoul? I’m addicted.

Garçon fleur

De Montréal, avec amour.

I’ve been following Montreal entreprise Garçon fleur for quite a while already – I just love the concept of delivering a flower bouquets at one’s doorstep by bike. They also recently opened a shop in Villeray and I have to stop by soon. For someone like me who is obsessed with flowers (can you tell that yet?), I had to try their service at least once. I’m always happy to support local businesses! Earlier in May was my sister’s birthday and it was the perfect timing to offer her one of Garçon fleur’s bouquets and a croissant from Mlle Gâteaux. It’s a lovely gift idea for your loved ones and is sure to please everyone. The flower arrangement is amazing. They even put asparagus, green onions and kale to make their bouquets! How cool and creative is that?

I took advantage of a sunny Sunday afternoon to snap these outdoors. The ambiance is overall very girly slash romantic, but I kinda like it. Happy belated birthday to the most amazing sister. x

Larose Paris Part 1

2015/05/22

Larose Paris © Sylvie Li

Hey all! I’m sharing a photoshoot that I did a few weeks ago with Larose Paris hats in the school’s studio. Isaac was kind enough to let me borrow a few of them for an assignment, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I’m having more and more fun in the studio with Korina, my partner in crime. This gal cracks me up, class wouldn’t be fun without her. There’s still improvement to make about the lighting on some shots, but I’m in a learning process so bear with me! The second part is completely different and was shot outdoors, which I’ll post soon.

Oh, and these hats are soooo beautiful. The fabrics and design are on point, and they have this elegant yet timeless style I always love. I wouldn’t say no to the Green Zip Fedora… Continue Reading…

The Dance Prelude

2015/05/11

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’m happy to share this series I shot at l’École supérieure de ballet du Québec as part of a school assignment. I wanted to do a ballet shooting since ages and it finally happened a month ago. Gabrielle is quite amazing and she has such great feet, I’m jealous! She graduated last year if I’m not wrong and she still takes classes at the School. Many thanks to her for being part of this photoshoot.

Ballerinas are the best. It’s the dream career I always wanted to do, unfortunately Mother Nature has given me the wrong body type (aka the short one). But oh well. I hope you like these.  Continue Reading…

Still Life – Flowers VIII & Late Spring

2015/05/06

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I hope you’re not sick yet of flower posts, because I’m not done. The challenge is to shoot on a different perspective/angle, which I was struggling for in the past few Still Life series. Fortunately on that day, the light coming in the apartment was beautiful and I took advantage of the chair nearby to photograph the bouquet. I especially love the gradient tones of the roses, it’s pretty gorgeous if you ask me. Coming home to some nice flowers changes up the mood, trust me. It’s all about finding joy in the small things.

On another note, I feel super happy because of the warm weather we’ve experienced for the last few days. I enjoyed my weekend with my roomates at the park, ate small berries and fresh salads on my balcony and wore summer dresses. It all feels good. School is also coming to an end and I’m stoked for yet another summer in Montreal and my upcoming trip to California.

I’ll be sharing some of my college assignments soon, so stay tuned. 🙂

Have a great week!
